Cruise Hangover

Posted in Beatles Tribute Cruise, Personal, Website Stuff on April 12, 2010 by Bertone

One week after the fab Beatles Cruise and I just got back to my house last night!

Some of you who have been  regulars are wondering why the site hasn’t been updated, and some of you who connected with me during the cruise may be checking back for updates and finding none.  On the way back home my car broke down…for good. I had to take a bus halfway home and the rest is a long story. I had limited compute access and couldn’t give the website the attention it deserved. Here are a few things of note..

* I know some of you have been trying to get your accounts activated for the message board. There have been (since deleted) spam problems and I may be redoing or getting ride of the message board as it stands and replacing it with another discussion forum or something similar.

* The problems which occured with downloading episodes last week should be over now.

* I know I mentioned them in the post below but I want to give a shout out to All Beatles Store again. Great store and great site! Check them out!

* Be sure to check out the Beatles Tribute Cruise Facebook group page. Lots of photos being posted by everyone.

*During the Jorie Gracen “Behind The Lens” sequence on the cruise, I was asked to help give her “Get Wings In The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” campaign and this is the result.  More coming from that later but I’m pleased to have over 800 fans in less than a week.

Life is somewhat getting back to “normal”. I finally got home last night, I’m renting a car today, and I’m slowly going back to work, so check the site for news, photos, podcasts and other updates as they come!

All Beatles Store

One of the vendors I had a chance to meet during the great “Beatles Tribute Cruise” was Dennis Kuglin. He has a website called “All Beatles Store” (now linked in the sidebar) which is a great shopping center for Beatles fans. Had I brought a larger budget, I could have easily spent a 2k there, but alas I didn’t. I will be doing my Beatles shopping there (and directing friends and family to do the same) from now on. Check it out, great stuff!

Back from “Beatles Tribute Cruise”

What a great week! I start with the Beatles Tribute Cruise and I just got back from seeing Paul McCartney! A few quick points…

* I will post more updates and pictures in the next 24 hours or so. Getting off of the boat, taking care of car problems, seeing Sir Paul and driving back home will take up much of my time.

* I am aware some of you are having trouble downloading podcasts that I posted on the cruise. I will have that problem fixed by Monday.

* Welcome everyone who found my website through meeting me on the cruise. Take a look around, but check back during the week as I’ll have more updates..things are a bit more desolate now because of how busy I’ve been. The “cruise updates” podcasts were edited quickly on the boat and I think it shows, I’d recommend listening to older episodes first…but check back later as Woody and I will be doing a formal “Cruise Exit Interview” episode.

Thanks…now to get some sleep…more travels tomorrow!

Cruise Report Day 1

Posted in Beatles Tribute Cruise on March 28, 2010 by Bertone

I’m having a blast at the Beatles Tribute Cruise. I wore 8 Beatles buttons on my shirt today, so naturally I looked just like a TGIF Fridays server. I ran into May and her daughter Lara at guest services. Things were a bit uncertain because Nancy’s plane was running late. Luckily Nancy made it.

When the ship left the dock our group went to the pool deck to see BritBeat perform. It was an awesome concert and video will be uploaded later. I met Woody in person and he seemed thrilled that everything was coming together after all his months of planning. Joe Johnson from Beatles Brunch was there and did a trivia contest. I feel like it was cheating but I did win a Ringo “Y Not” CD.

At the welcoming party both Woody Lifton and May Pang gave me a special introduction which was very flattering. Shannon was there but unfortunately her luggage was not. Her painting would have to sent to one of our stops and shown at a later date. Luckily Nancy Andrews lent her some clothing so she wouldn’t have to keep wearing the same thing. Nancy and I were delighted to see eachother again and she introduced me to her husband who was also on board.

BritBeat gave another rocking performance. Someone requested “Some Other Guy” and they actually did it off the top of their heads (admitting they never performed it before).
“Wow, I’ve never seen a Beatles tribute band do SOME OTHER GUY”. – Woody Lifton

Check the podcast feed for (hopefully) daily reports as the wifi lets me.

The Night Before

Posted in Beatles Tribute Cruise, Personal on March 28, 2010 by Bertone

It’s Saturday night and tomorrow I’ll be sailing on the Beatles Tribute Cruise. I’m all packed and super excited. I even brought some of my games (Beatles Trivial Pursuit, Beatles Monopoly) because I’ll finally have some other fans to play them with. I’ll be rereading some Beatles books by the pool, laying in the sun and doing some general networking with fans. I’m excited to see old friends May Pang and Nancy Andrews again and excited about meeting new friends. I’ve known Woody for almost a year and I’ll finally be meeting him face to face. When this was announced last summer I was thrilled and the day has finally come.

The goal is to post daily photo updates and a daily podcast. My laptop is having issues which is frustrating coming so soon after my summer computer issues when it was fried by lightning. If they can’t be daily they will at least be four released during the week. I’ll have my portable recorders and cameras with me and will be documenting as much as I can.
I have a different Beatles shirt for each day will be showing up wearing eight Beatles buttons on my blue “Beatles Tribute Cruise” shirt tomorrow. Look for me if you’ll be there.

Beatles Tribute Cruise News

Below is a message from a friend of the website named Woody Lifton. He’s putting together a Beatles Cruise which will be fun for all.

We’ve got some big news about our Beatles Tribute Cruise. New Special Beatles Guests and a very special Beatles Event. Let’s start with our newest Special Beatles Guest, Chris O’Dell, the author of“Miss O’Dell: My Hard Days and Long Nights with The Beatles, The Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the Women They Loved”.

George Harrison wrote a song for her (“Miss O’Dell”), as did her boyfriend, Leon Russell (“Pisces Apple Lady”). She was there on the roof of Apple when the Beatles famously performed “Hey Jude” on TV. She watched as they recorded at Abbey Road, and was best friends with George’s wife, Pattie Boyd. She had affairs with Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan. O’Dell and Joni Mitchell vied for the attention of Sam Shepard while on the road with Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue (Mitchell referred to her in the song “Coyote” as “the woman down the hall”).

As O’Dell writes in the book’s foreward: “I wasn’t famous. I wasn’t even almost famous. But I was there”

Chris will join May Pang and Nancy Andrews’ Question and Answer session called “The Rock and Roll Asylum” and participate in her own still to be named Q & A session aboard the Beatles Tribute Cruise.

We’ve also added Joe Johnson, the host and creator of the nationally syndicated radio show “BeatleBrunch” who joins us as the co-host of the cruise. Joe will be handling our Beatles Trivia Contest (just wait until you the prizes for the winners) and will host Jorie Gracen’s Q & A session called “Behind the Lens with Paul McCartney”

And now for something really special: Shannon- the World’s Greatest Beatles Artist will unveil eight paintings from her “Hard Days Night Hotel Collection” in a Private Ceremony open only to our Beatles Tribute Cruisers and the national and local press. Those invited to unveil a painting include the President of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, the Captain of the Independence of the Seas, May Pang (John Lennon’s former girlfriend) and Joe Johnson. For press passes please contact Woody Lifton @

Don’t forget that Royal Caribbean has lowered prices for our Beatles Tribute Cruise almost 30% but that discount ends on 10/31/09. You only need a deposit of around $300 to reserve your cabin and the balance does not have to be paid off until 1/4/09.

So head over to our Beatles Tribute Cruise website and book your Beatles vacation of a lifetime.
